The Kanas lake is also known as “a Lake With Monsters”

  It is said that there are two lakes with a mystery about “Lake Monster” in the world. One is the Nice Lake in Britain and the other is the beautiful Kanas Lake.        

   On the local Tuwa people’s folk legend, there is a giant monster in the lake, which can spray mist, walk on cloud and wolf down the horses, cattle and sheep on the bank. Such a legend continues to present-day from ancient time. The legend goes that in the late 19^th century, a Russian once caught a giant fish, weighing several tons, with a length of ten meters. These years, more tourists and scientific expeditionary have witnessed the enormous fish. Based on their description, one can see, on the top of mountain, fish-like things which are scores of meters long. Swimming, splashing and stirring up waves in shoos. The legend about “Lake Monster” has provoked much discussion among people once more and become something supernatural.

  It is known that eight kinds of fish inhabit the lake, the famous strainis, what the local says Big Red Fish, This fish is termed as taimen, whose sides are silvery white, back is brown red, liking to eat fries and wild ducks etc. It is a typical fresh cold-water carnivorous fish and big ones are as long as two meters or more, weighing five or six tons. It is still a mystery whether Lake Monster in legend is the same as “Big Red Fish”.

  Anyone who has arrived at the Kanas Lake is anxious to see the true face Lake Monster”. At the western side of the lake, on the top of the mountain at the altitude of 2030 meters stands an arbour, named “Fish Viewing Arbour”, which becomes a  tourist-gathering place. An analysis and judge are made about the emerging time of “Lake Monster” that the monster mostly appear when the water is lack of oxygen after rain, during hot weather or the sun shines directly on the surface of the lake.
