  Since ancient time, there have been myths and legends about the Kanas lake handed down among the Tuwa people. Long, long ago, a beautiful shepherd girl fell in love with a handsome young hunter.

  After drinking the lake water, she bore a boy very soon. They named this kid Kanas, implying Sacred Water or Saint Water.
